POPCORN FACTS
Indiana ranks second in the U.S. in producing popcorn. In 2001, Indiana farmers produced 269 million pounds of popcorn. Its popularity has led to a one billion dollar a year industry in Indiana and ranks Indiana as a major popcorn producing state in terms of acres planted and harvested.
According to The Popcorn Institute, the peak period for popcorn sales for home consumption is in the fall. Sales remain fairly high throughout the winter months then taper off during spring and summer.
The top popcorn producing counties in Indiana include, White, Pulaski, Fulton, Tipton and Daviess. Indiana is also home to several popcorn companies including Orville Redenbacher Popcorn Company, Ramsey Popcorn Inc., and Weaver Popcorn.
